Wareley on fire with 40-meter stunner as Rygers humble Pirates in own backyard

It’s truly amazing what a new environment can do to one’s confidence – especially a place where one is valued and appreciated.

That’s the reason the veteran striker Danian Wareley is on fire and banging in the goals at his new Rygersdal FC outfit.

The 38-year-old has rolled back the clock when he racked up his third goal for his new club – a 40-meter banger – to secure all three points during an impressive 3-1 victory when they humbled Young Pirates in their own ‘Harry Gwala’ venue in Heideveld on Friday evening.

What makes this win so impressive is the fact that Ashraf Calvert’s (coach) troops had to come from behind after trailing 0-1 at halftime.

It was the proverbial game of two halves when Joel Olarogun and the experienced Jean Topley turned the game in Rygers’ favour with a goal apiece in the second half before Wareley rolled back the clock with a long-range stunner.

Wareley explained how his move to Rygers materialized.

“It all happened so quickly, I played a game for Ashford, then got dropped for the next two games, then requested my clearance for a second time,’ Wareley revealed to No Bones with Jones.  “Then Saxons came in, but because of the Norway Parks/Saxons rivalry, I couldn’t get myself to do it – then out of the blue Rygersdal came in as I decided to make the move a couple of weeks ago, and the rest is history,” Wareley added.

This is a massive three points away from home as it keeps them in the hunt of the runaway log leader, Saxon Rovers, who edged out Jomos Power at the Royal Road Sport Complex in Maitland on Friday and now face a tough away tie to Greenwood Athletic in Steenberg on Sunday.

Friday’s other results:

Wanderers FC 4, Goodhope FC 1
Silver Spurs 2, JL Zwane 1
Premier United 3, Matroosfontein 1
Saxon Rovers 1, Jomos Power 0
