There’s something really fishy playing out at the Third Division outfit YMO, and let truth be told, it stinks!
Not to mention the stench it brings along is so overwhelming, it’s affecting the players’ performance, contributing to negative results.
Since the league restarted after the Festive break early in January, YMO (18 points) has played 11 matches, won one, drawn three and lost six and have found themselves in the relegation zone with, Goal50 United, Silver Spurs (both 17) and Good Hope FC (3) – the proverbial ‘Graveyard’ league is already preparing for the latter’s burial.
Their game with Greenwood at Solo Street was blown off after gunshots were fired with Greenwood leading by 2-0. This matter is apparently still under investigation
Surely there seems to be a change of guard after the coaching duo of Lwazi Galada and his assistant Timothy Jonhson sought greener pastures – not to mention, the club’s so-called Technical Director, Franklyn Davies, who has gone ‘AWOL’ for the past couple of weeks.
The club’s chairman Mark Slingers informed No Bones with Jones that ‘Tollie’ as Davis is called was attending a funeral two weeks ago but there’s still no sign of Davies at their matches – which is rather strange as a new coach in Bradley Barnes was doing duty at the club for a few weeks now.
Davies was also very cagey in his reply when probed on this matter. “We can talk again,” was his response. Word is Davies made his annual ‘pilgrimage’ to Tietiesbaai for the “Jazz on the Rocks” Festival.
The reality is there is uncertainty and players are getting frustrated and irritated as the results aren’t going their way either which compounds everyone’s misery at the club.
Furthermore, it’s also a cause for concern once a club’s chairman is paraded as one of the technical team members – which anyone will tell you this has never been a recipe for success.
For what it’s worth, Slingers should really do some introspection as the record shows that YMO has been very poor and disappointing since football returned in the new year.
If it wasn’t for the goal prowess of their talismanic striker, Rushan Abrahams, with his 18 goals – and the heroics and safe hands of the goalkeeper Nuan Theart then then they could have easily been side-by-side with the league’s punching bags, Good Gope FC.
It again showed during their 1-3 loss to Ashford Athletic at their Downberg Road homeground in Hanover Park on Saturday the difference Abrahams makes on attack.
Theart on the other hand is trying his utmost to keep the opposition at bay on the other end of the field with his fantastic goalkeeping.
If Slingers were to retain the status of his club then it’s important that fans see Tollie on the touchline as soon as possible – otherwise prepare for the inevitable!
