Deane dismiss Hout Bay fixture as title decider… Swifts mentor relish “tough and interesting match-ups to compete

.

I’m going state the obvious but here it goes anyway…

The title race in Stream A of Safa Western Cape’s ABC Motsepe League is anything but a foregone conclusion and will go down to the wire.

This comes after the log leader Hout Bay United FC are back to winning ways after a convincing 4-0 victory against Inter City FC at the Wynberg Military base on Wednesday to erase their woes following a 0-1 loss to Cape Town Spurs in their previous match before the Easter break.

So, too did second placed Sea Point Swifts (Hope FC) to keep their momentum and pressure on Hout Bay with a hard fought 2-1 win over Santos FC at the Thornton Road Sport Complex thanks to a brace by Cole Schoeman.

But here’s the kicker, should Swifts (32 points) win their game in hand, they will overtake Hout Bay (35 points) and should be in the driving seat with their fate in their own hands.

This is why Swifts’ coach, Dylan Deane, emphasized that their focus is solely on themselves heading into the business end of the season.

Swifts welcome Hout Bay (14:00) to the Erica Park on Saturday (11 April) and according to Deane this should be an “interesting and tough one” for the home side.

“But that is what football is all about, you want tough games, you want good games and you want teams like Santos that compete,” Deane explained to No Bones with Jones. “They can make you look at yourself and say to yourself like ‘Wow! tonight we dug deep and tonight (Wednedsay) we really had to do that, you know and full credit to Brad and his team,” Deane added.

The well-travelled coach was also quick to dismiss the notion that their fixture against the table toppers is a potential title decider.

“Nah, it can’t be a title decider,” Deane said smilingly. “It’s a title decider maybe on the last day when both team have the same points and things as we still have about eight or nine games to go so there’s no title (decider) because (CT) Spurs are also in it and Hanover Park is also so there, so we have to show respect to every team, you know,” Deane concluded.
