The province of Limpopo has thrown a spanner in the works after it has also put in a bid along with the favourites, the Western Cape, to host the ABC Motsepe League Playoffs for the 2025/’26 season.
Despite the interest from up north, No Bones with Jones has it with good authority that it will be held at sea level – as was the case when JDR Stars and Steenberg United won promotion at the Erica Park in Belhar back in the 2018/’19 season.
This was confirmed to our website by a local source who divulged. “Look, what is certain is that it will be hosted by the Western Cape,” the source revealed to No Bones with Jones. “I’m also aware there were initial talks about shifting it to the Cape Winelands, but things have changed and Erica Park is set to host the playoffs if all goes to plan.
“The facility has ample fields which are in fantastic condition and it also has parking facilities. So, why would you not want to play it there,” the source added.
This will be music to the ears of the Second Division newbie Sea Point Swifts (HopeFC), who uses the facility as their homeground. Swifts are in the driving seat to their Stream A after they got the better of their title rivals Hout Bay United by 1-0 over the weekend.
They are also unbeaten at their home ground thus far and would relish and seize these prospects with both hands – but first they will have to win their stream as they still have eight matches left to go and it would be very unwise of them to count their chickens.
There’s a strong feeling that whoever wins stream A, will probably have to battle it out with the pacesetters in stream B like either Diadora FC, Ammar Soccer Academy or even Grassy Park United for that matter as stranger things have happened in football already.
Either way, what will be important is, if a team from Cape Town wins promotion to the pro ranks as it will serve as another opportunity for the local talent.
