Safa CT’s General Secretary Reyaad clarifies relegation/promotion saga in RTD

Safa Cape Town General Secretary, Reyaad Joseph has clarified the uncertainty regarding the promotion/relegation permutations for the Regional Third Division Leagues.

Joseph has also made it clear that he is “not the designer of ABC Motsepe League so my view is based on what I was told by individuals.”

“I can only speak on behalf of the regional league,” Joseph stated to No Bones with Jones. “Stream A will see position 13 – relegated and for Stream B position 12 will be relegated.

“Position 12 in stream A and position 11 in stream B will play off in a relegation match. The loser of this match will be relegated should the Western Cape Motsepe winner not gain promotion to NFD,” he added.

As things stand, Junction Rovers who occupies the last position in stream A is a goner along with wooden spooners in stream B, FC Hillside while Mbekweni Cosmos and Inter City, who occupy the second last positions in their respective streams could be the two teams to play out.

Meanwhile, with regards to the Third Division Joseph further stated: “The highest number of teams that can be relegated as agreed in the preseason meeting is five depending how the permutations unfold come the end of the season.”

Needless to say, apart from Good Hope FC, things are less clear cut in the so-called Graveyard League as opposed to the Second Division where anyone from position 11 to 17 can still be chopped as things are so congested and close to call.

“You could also find a scenario where a minimum of four teams can be relegated after the various permutations,” Joseph concluded.
