Hanover Park FC head coach Anwar Gallant suggests it is understandable why Sea Point Swifts (Hope FC) is currently in the driving seat in Stream A of the ABC Motsepe League.
“With the resources, players and staff they have, they should be,” Gallant explained to No Bones with Jones. “Look, credit should also be given to their coaching staff, who have a lot of experience and are doing great work with the newcomers. I think they are favourites, in my view” he stated.
According to Gallant, the stream (A) will definitely be decided on the last day as things are too close to call.
“Not to mention the league is also so unpredictable, you know. On the one end, teams are fighting for points to avoid relegation, while others are fighting to win the stream – so, every match is tough and nothing is guaranteed. In the Second Division people shouldn’t write off any team at this point. Any of the top five can mathematically still win the stream,” he added.
Hanover Park FC, also known as “Die Brasse Vannie Park,” currently sits comfortably in third position, two points off the pacesetter Swifts, with the latter having played a game less.
Needless to say, with so much that has happened in the league thus far, with new and old teams coming in as well as others like Santos being expelled, then reinstated, few probably remember that Hanover Park is still the defending champions in the stream and also should not be written.
Gallant is of the opinion that this mantle brings its “own kind of pressure” as well.
“People seem to forget that,” Gallant pointed out. “We have to work extra hard to keep it that way and probably harder than others as everyone wants to get their hands on the title, you know,” Gallant concluded.
Gallant is preparing his troops for an away clash against Hout Bay United FC on Saturday, which he described as another “stern test” knowing all too well that the home side will be eager to get back to winning ways after last week’s 0-1 defeat to the log leaders Swifts.
