Tankiso Modipa, Chairperson of the Football Transformation Forum (FTF) has cited why they are backing SAFA President Dr. Danny Jordaan (pictured right) as their candidate to run for a fourth term in the upcoming elections in September.
The FTF only recently confirmed that the 74-year-old Jordaan would be contesting for the elections, and will be up against AmaZulu FC President and businessman, Sandile Zungu, who is backed by Save Our SAFA (SOS) lobby group, in the hotly contested presidential campaign.
It’s been a campaign thus far where chancers like the vice president, Bennett Bailey (pictured left), who is also the President of SAFA Cape Town were exposed after Bailey revealed his intentions to challenge Jordaan for the national presidency but withdrew and decided to jump on the bandwagon of Zungu.
Modipa cited that they have yet again elected Jordaan as their president due to vice presidents not sticking to the mandate of the forum.
“It’s very difficult for me to understand when people say he must go. (Within) SAFA we had a problem with our vice presidents, that is a fact. Whoever we put there as vice president, the next term he wants to be president, instead of learning from Dr Jordaan, because nobody can buy that experience,” Modipa said on the Africa Football Connect YouTube Channel.
“People want him out, now you have names, I don’t like to mention people’s names but you know who I’m talking about, you look where he’s leading currently, is he successful there? Is he number one in the PSL? Does he qualify for CAF? You talk about the CAF President, he’s the president but you can see Sundowns are the champions.
“You measure the success of someone from where he comes from. That won’t change when he ascends to certain positions and you need to come through the ranks. For us to retain Dr Jordaan for this term, is because of the disappointments we received from some of the vice-presidents we put there,” Modipa concluded.
