The legacy of non-racial football in South Africa will take centre stage when the South African Federation Legends, in partnership with Western Province Football, host a prestigious gala dinner as part of the National BGM and Heritage Celebration commemorating 20 years of existence.
Held under the theme “Honouring the Past, Preserving the Legacy and Building the Future,” the event will take place on 14 November at Cape Town’s iconic Athlone Stadium, widely regarded as the Home of Football in the Western Cape.
The celebration aims to recognise the pioneers, administrators, players and communities who helped shape the rich history of non-racial football during some of the most challenging periods in South Africa’s sporting landscape.
Athlone Stadium, a venue synonymous with the struggle for sporting equality and the growth of community football, provides a fitting backdrop for an occasion dedicated to preserving the stories, sacrifices and achievements of those who laid the foundations for future generations.
Organisers say the gala dinner will not only honour the heroes of the past but will also serve as a platform to inspire the next generation to carry forward the values and traditions that helped build the game.
As South African football continues to evolve, the event is expected to shine a spotlight on the enduring contribution of non-racial football and the importance of safeguarding its legacy for years to come.
