Safa Western Cape has set the date, September 9th, for its initial engagement with the club representatives of the ABC Motsepe League – much to the relief of the local coaches.
This follows after several coaches were left frustrated and wondering when the region will communicate with them regarding the commencement of the season.
Well, it is safe to say that is now something of the past after Safa Western Cape chairman Tankiso Modipa informed clubs via a letter about the Motsepe League pre-season meeting to be held at 11:00 am the Caledon Casino and Spa in Caledon.
No bones with Jones have established that one of the biggest announcements expected to be made is that the league will revert back to one stream – some clubs and coaches might find this favourable while others won’t, it is just the nature of the beast!
The selling of statuses, which is another contentious issue, has also received serious deliberation. It has been decided that a club can only sell a status after two years of competing in a particular league.
Other issues on the agenda include feedback from the previous (2022/’23) season, payments, prize monies, travelling, regulations and the Nedbank Cup draw.
Modipa said that it was important that he needed to operate within the framework before notifying the clubs.
“By now you have seen how I do things,” Modipa pointed out. “I first consult the stakeholders and when we agree, then only I give a statement to the public and media platforms here in the province.
“My problem is I cannot discuss things with the media or anyone before we have an agreement with the clubs because my understanding and the way I run things must be a collective decision.
“I also don’t want to pre-empt things that we will be doing this, or we’ll be doing that only to find out that when we get to the meeting it is not like that or the clubs are not happy with the approach.
“So, I like to have a formidable approach or collective decision before we all can disseminate information out to the public. That’s how I’ve been leading the way,” Modipa concluded.
