Greenwood coach Warren Lotters clearly has something up his sleeve.
This follows after he buttered up his counterpart Patrick Weels from Matroosfontein FC, whom they face (19:30) at Solo Street on Tuesday (14 November) in a Hollywoodbets Third Division clash.
Lotters is aiming to make it two in a row after they beat Seaside Spurs in their opening match of the new campaign.
Lotters highlighted that it will be a very tough encounter but they are relishing the challenge against the best “young guns” of the Northern Suburbs LFA.
“Matroosfontein has a young group of players and have been consistent throughout 2023.” Lotters explained. “The enjoyed a good run in the Bayhill, they are also Coke finalist, and they won the regional Nedbank Cup which is an indication that coach Weels is doing an amazing job at Matroos.
Needless to say, both teams are set up very similarly, loaded with young and exciting talent coming through their respective ranks. Hence, Lotters is expecting a high tempo game with end-to-end action.
“Two young teams coming up against each other, should be exciting,” the Greenwood mentor further stated. “We left it late the last home game but were eventual winners. If we keep our focus and discipline, stick to the (game) plan then I am sure we will give a good account of ourselves.”
Lotters will hope that Greenwood’s home ground, dubbed as ‘Spoek se Land’ could prove too hostile for Matroos’ young guns.
“Our twelfth man and loyal supporters will surely come out in numbers although it is a midweek game. For the love of the game and hopefully they can pull us through again,” Lotters added.
Meanwhile Weels is chasing redemption after Matroos fell short in the Nedbank Cup regional playoffs in Caledon over the weekend.
Matroos is also chasing a second win under their belt when they walloped Ocean View 4-1 in the first match of the season two weeks ago.
