Spare a thought for the Hollywoodbets Third Division champion Vasco da Gama who have to roll with the punches leading up to their ABC Motsepe League playoff campaign.
Coach Andrew Pequeno and his troops are still in limbo regarding the details and logistics of the playoffs as nothing has been communicated from the two footballing entities Safa Western Cape and Safa Cape Town.
“The only thing we’ve been told is that the playoffs are the 20th and the 21st in Eden,” Pequeno said to No Bones with Jones. “Other than that we are in the dark.”
With the playoffs just over a month away, this leaves Vasco with very little time to thoroughly plan and finalise their traveling, accommodation and food budget which is expected to be a hefty amount in the region of R80 000.
Our website understands however that the Parow-based outfit is also still waiting on their prize money for winning the league which ended on 9 May already – just compounding their misery.
This is quite sad as it is certainly not an ideal situation for a champion side preparing for the biggest hurdle of its season.
Luckily for Pequeno, he’s been there before a couple of times but each campaign is different and nothing should be taken for granted.
