Cape Town Spurs relegated to ‘graveyard’ league

Safa Western Cape Chairman Tankiso Modipa confirmed that two teams per stream will be relegated from the ABC Motsepe League Second Division.

“Yes, two teams from each stream will be relegated,” Modipa told No Bones with Jones.

This confirmation spells bad news for teams like the academy side of Cape Town Spurs who are now relegated following their 0-2 loss against neighbours Vasco da Gama over the weekend. This is indeed very sad as one struggles to understand how an influential club like Spurs, with all their resources and big budgets, could not manage to retain their status.

Spurs will ply their trade in the Hollywoodbets Third Division, dubbed as the ‘graveyard’ league next season along with the wooden spooners in Stream A, Diaz Leeds, who shockingly did not record a single point thus far.

So, too will the newcomer Infantry School in Stream B have to face the reality of playing in a lower tier next season. The other relegation candidates Barcelona FC, Ubuntu Spartans and Salim United will battle it out after the Easter break to avoid dropping down.

Mind you, this trio of teams still need to play against one another. Bear in mind that Salim, also a newcomer to the league, is owned by Martiens Konstabel, father of the province’s secretary Nadia Konstabel and this will definitely make for an interesting finale to the season.
