Dispute between Ubuntu Spartans and Barcelona threaten to derail Playoffs

As dramatic as it sounds… don’t be surprised if the Hollywoodbets Third Division Playoffs campaign gets postponed.

This comes after the dispute between the two Central-Karoo teams Barcelona and Ubuntu Spartans FC – where a player was allegedly not registered according to the rules – was not yet resolved and could lead to further complications with the Playoffs at the Kwa-Nokuthula Stadium in Plettenberg Bay looming in two weeks’ time.

No Bones with Jones understands that it was ruled in Ubuntu’s favour which did not go down well with Barcelona who subsequently indicated that they will resort to the province to intervene.

The province’s Deputy Chairman Chris Tyhawana stated that he is unaware of the latest developments adding that there is an appeal board that deals with issues such as these.

Tyhawana hinted that they have been patient but added that his office will forward correspondence to the Central-Karoo region to expedite the process.

”We cannot pre-empt as we have not received anything,” Tyhawana said to No Bones with Jones. “What I will say is that we will not be held ransom by the regions.

“In fact, I will communicate with them in the next day or two as we want to finalize their representative – it cannot drag on like this. The idea is to have the live draw as soon as we can but they need to submit,” he added.

Meanwhile Safa Cape Town has confirmed the date for the send-off of the region’s representative, Vasco da Gama.

The official ceremony will take place at the club’s Parow Park home ground from 19:00 on Friday (11 July).
