Former Silver Spurs duo, head coach Kevin Lewis and striker Ameen Awaldien have taken on a new form of “red and white” after they joined Norway Parks FC at the Cape Town Tygerberg LFA for the upcoming season.
This decision might come as a shock to many, but according to Lewis a change of “environment and scenery” was needed to potentially take his coaching career to newer heights while Awaldien is probably getting his sharpness back by striking for Norway at LFA level.
“Yes, look I did what I had to do in the Athlone community and maybe it’s the right time to move into a different environment,” Lewis explained to No Bones with Jones. “How does the saying go… “If we don’t change, we don’t grow,” so that’s also my reasoning, you know,” he added.
Lewis is no stranger in the local football fraternity and has had success in the past with clubs like Hazendal United at the Rygate LFA. Along with co-coach Victor Tajoodien, they also saved Spurs Third Division status on the last day of the 2025/’26 season.
Lewis also confirmed that he’ll be joined by the veteran striker Awaldien who could try to rekindle his goal scoring prowess after an injury plague season with Young Pirates – and perhaps this will be valuable gametime in order to regain his sharpness when he returns to Pirates for their Third Division campaign next season. There is no doubt that Lewis and Awaldien will add a wealth of ex[perience at their new club
Norway’s chairlady, Nicole Kinnear, confirmed the news of their new acquisitions.
“My juniors are also doing exceptionally well as the debutants in Premier one, we have been leading the pack since the start of the season,” Kinnear explained to No Bones with Jones. “Super proud of our youngsters, and they have stepped up in leaps and bounds and various tournaments and competitions,” Kinnear concluded.
