Girl’s football to flourish with exclusive league for under-15’s

Safa Cape Town is fulfilling its mandate by striving for equality with the introduction of the new under-15 Inter LFA league for girls.

The launch of this long overdue league for the fairer sex will take place on 14 September with the venue still to be confirmed.

There is no question that women’s football is one of the fastest growing sporting codes in the country, and this initiative is testament thereof.

Ashlam Petersen (pictured), Safa CT’s Regional Technical HOD explained: ” This is an initiative by Safa National’s Technical Director Walter Steenbok,” Petersen said to No Bones with Jones. This will help to assist with the tracking of female footballers from a young age so it is easy to help with talent identification.

“Remember this is also part of the talent identification scheme that Fifa introduced last year with the boys but there was nothing for the girls, hence we are rolling it out now.

“The province is also having trials tomorrow and those selected will be earmarked for the under17 national teams as it just makes the selection and tracking process easier. They already started with the High-Performance Centre on a national level,” Petersen added.
