Heroes want to strike early in Coke Cup Final against UCT Ladies

The players of Dangerous Heroes are aiming to write their names into the record books of the Coke Cup as they prepare to face the mighty UCT Ladies (13:30) in the Final of this prestigious competition at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday.

Coach Bayanda Sikiti and his Heroes-outfit are 90-minutes away from defending their title they won against The Magic Ladies last season – and becoming only the second team in the more than three-decades old cup competition to do so.

Known as the David vs Goliath match-up, similar to England’s FA Cup, the Coke again lived up to expectations with the cream of the crop progressing to the big stage.

Speaking about the cream of the crop, there is none more worthy of this label than their opponents, UCT Ladies, who stand between them and successive Coke Cup titles.

“Well, defending any title comes with a lot of pressure,” Sikiti stated to No Bones with Jones. “We are playing UCT who are the Sasol league champions and they just got promoted to the Hollywoodbets Super League. They are a different team from the previous opposition, and they have a good crop of players. So, it’s not going to be easy,” he added.

“But we have prepared well and all our players are available. I believe we are ready and we will do our utmost best to defend the Coke Cup. Of course it won’t be easy, however to be the best you’ve got to play against the best.”

Sikiti suggested that the idea is to get an early goal and to put UCT on the back foot and hopefully forcing errors.

“Ideally that would be the plan,” Sikiti concluded.
