The Kenpark United Arising Stars under-23 Tournament is back on the soccer calendar after an absence of three years due to Covid.
No Bones with Jones has been informed that Kenpark’s committee, under the leadership of the tournament director Lyle Johannes, are working tirelessly behind the scenes.
The 2023 edition also happens to coincide with the tournament’s 10th anniversary and expectations are that this will be the ‘mother of all events’ – no one would have been prouder than the club’s legend, the late Ricky Burns who was the brainchild and driving force behind this event.
This year 24 teams will partake in the two-day event taking place from 21 to 22 October at the Rocklands Sports Complex in Mitchells Plain.
Johannes said invitations have been sent out already with a couple of spots still available.
“We will ensure the platform created by Kenpark with the vision and dream of the late Ricky Burns, will continue,” Johannes stated.
“The objective is to create a platform for the age groups between 16 and 23 years, that is falling by the wayside as they are eligible to be senior players but find it challenging. to flourish,” Johannes concluded.
Burns died on June13th 2015, and this tournament is one way to honour his legacy as his love for football and the development thereof was unrivalled.
