Believe it or not, the name Lightbody’s could soon be back in local football.
No Bones With Jones has been informed that a consortium has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to re-establish the Lightbody’s brand which was started by the late Nazmie Bardien in the mid-eighties.
During that time the Lightbody’s Santos team was the pride of the Mother City, and especially the Cape Flats.
Santos – sponsored by the local clothing retailer in Lightbody’s – had a massive support base and was driven on the field by local talent that fans could identify and relate with.
Lightbody’s once played a pivotal role amongst Cape soccer fans and society at large. Needless to say, it was adored and loyally supported by the Cape’s soccer fans because of the principles and ethos – Liberty, Fraternity and Equality – it stood for.
And now die-hard fans of the brand could possibly rekindle that ‘love affair” but most importantly to keep Bardien’s legacy alive.
Apart from the administration side of things which is taken care of, the club is in negotiations for a home base, and it is just a matter of time before their venue will be announced.
The driving force behind this project is Bardien’s son, Farouk. Along with the family and life-long friend Keith America, the glory days are beckoning.
Details at this stage are still sketchy, but one can only imagine the impact Lightbody’s will make to try and make football inclusive for players from all races and backgrounds – and where money should be the least of their concerns.

We hope Santos fc can get back at the highest level of SA Football and make an impact once again. Taking into account thst the club adopt this notion of equal opportunities for all iro player or administration backgrounds. Hope the club adopt this policy of players and technical staff are intellectual capital before owners and be remunerated fairly.
