‘Lion’ ready to roar for Hazendal at Third Division playoffs

Former Hanover Park FC striker Ameen Awaldien (pictured) has been inundated with offers – from both ABC Motsepe League and Hollywoodbets Third Division sides.

Despite this interest, the 29-year old-goal poacher indicated that his focus for now is with Hazendal United who will be representing Rygate LFA for a fourth successive time at the Third Division Playoffs.

Hazendal finished second in the LFA’s top competition, but because champions Silver Spurs already have a Third Division team, Kaashief Lewis’ side made it through.

This will be Awaldien’s second consecutive outing with the team from Bokmakierie in Athlone.

“I must admit I’m flattered knowing that clubs are still after my services,” Awaldien told No Bones with Jones. “But unfortunately I cannot be of service to anyone as I’m committed to Hazendal. That is where all my focus is at the moment.

“We have unfinished business (at playoffs) as you know. So, given that I want to help them achieve their objectives this time round and then we can see from there,” said the well-travelled striker.

Awaldien made the step up to the Motsepe League with Hanover Park FC last season with big expectations following his heriocs in the third division with Silver Spurs. However, this move did not have the desired effect.

Lack of game time saw ‘Lion,’ as Awaldien is known, make only a handful of appearances scoring one goal in the process. Most of his game time was coming off the bench which made him a bit of a forgotten figure.

“Look, that is part of football. Sometimes things work out and sometimes it doesn’t. It is no use to sulk and complain about it. I still went to training and did what I had to do – it just wasn’t to be and I moved on,” Awaldien concluded.
