Other than FC Kapstadt, host of the annual Kapstadt Cup youth tournament, it will be a historic occasion for its neighbours, Meadowridge FC.
It is because no other club has been part of every event since its inception 12 years ago, besides Meadowridge, that is. This club from the Cape Town Tygerberg LFA has made history without a ball even being kicked.
The 12th edition of the Kapstadt spectacle is made up of 31 clubs consisting of 120 teams and 1778 players.
The matches will be held at three venues, Hartleyvale Stadium, Greenpoint and St. Georges Grammar School in Mowbray from 4 October to 8 October 2023.
Four Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs have also entered their youth teams for this football festival, along with no less than 10 clubs and top academies from outside the Western Cape.
The influential Mamelodi Sundowns FC will make their fourth appearance at the tournament and will be represented by their under-12 to under-16 Academy teams.
Downs’ arch-rivals the University of Pretoria (Tuks) will be the biggest touring club at the event. Tuks, who made their debut in 2022, will be out in force represented by their under-8 to under-16 youth teams.
The coastal PSL-side from Kwazulu/Natal (KZN), Amazulu FC, will make their debut at the event with their under-14’s and under-16’s flying the flag for the Usuthu.
Their neighbours and ever-competitive Wentworth Warriors Academy complete Durban’s onslaught for success at the event.
The Athletic Club from Windhoek in Namibia will also be out in their numbers with age groups from under-8 to under-16.
Voota FC from Knysna is back for a second appearance while Hellenic from Pretoria, River Galaxy FC and Silverton FC, complete the Gauteng contingent.
From a local point of view, Cape Town Spurs FC returns for a third time and will be represented by their u-12’s, -14’s and -16’s while Stellenbosch FC will also be out in full force.
There are four local clubs that will make their debut at the event – Cape Town Fusion FC, Bellville City FC, Nova Nacional FC and Young Bafana Soccer Academy.
