Greenwood Athletic chairman, Noel Isaacs (pictured), has set the record straight regarding the “disordered facts” posted on social media following the resignation of its Youth Chairman, Raymond Brickles, recently.
This comes in the wake of Brickles’ ‘bomb’ he dropped on Facebook with a post which read; “A few weeks ago we had a club friendly at Rygersdal where an incident occurred. After the u12 team game they, along with their coach, gathered at a spot on the premises to get undressed.
“Whilst all sitting there, a person came over to the coach and sold him dagga (weed) in the sight of the kids, and this was observed by a parent of one of these players. The parent had a go at the coach because she was furious. I advised her that the correct process to follow is to report it to the club, which she did.
“Long story short, the club found the coach not guilty and fit to be re-installed as the coach, because this particular offense is not covered in our club constitution. I made it very clear to all what my stance was on this because I along with all the coaches have always strived to be the best role models we can be to our youngsters and to make sure that whilst at the club, we would provide them with space.
“Because I form part of the executive who allowed this decision, it left me no choice but to vacate that position, because that decision goes against everything I stand for when it comes to our kids. I will still be present at training and games like I used to, just not as the Youth Chairperson.
“I had to walk away two weeks ago when this all went down, but because the club had a very big tournament coming up, I decided to wait till after. My passion has always been the kids, and I would never abandon them. I trust this shed some light on why I have stepped down,” Brickles’ post concluded.
This clearly did not sit well with Isaacs who revealed that there are disturbingly “distorting facts.”
“This is obviously Mr Brickles trying to tarnish our club’s image,” Isaacs stated to No Bones with Jones. “Mr Brickles is not bigger than the club… the club is bigger than all individuals. He has resigned as chairperson of our youth. But he is still a member, and if found that he is bringing the club into disrepute, then the constitution will take its course.
“He has only been with the club for seven years and the club is 46 years old. The institution is always bigger than the individual. Also, the matter (regarding the coach) has been dealt with… the coach is back coaching his team with full support of the parents,” Isaacs concluded.

This is a very poor response from Mr. Isaacs. Nowhere I this report is there any indication that the Mr. Brickles brought the club into disrepute. In fact, he took the responsibility because it happened under his watch as youth chair. Rather than washing dirty linen in public, Mr Isaacs should have thanked him for his moral leadership and asked him gracefully to. withdraw his resignation. This would have also highlighted Mr. Isaac’s role to provide sound leadership and governance. Our beloved country is sick of immoral and corrupt leadership, which we must be very meticulous not to pass on to the next generation. This issue certainly leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
