There’s a new kid on the block in the Goodhope LFA – FC Cousins (pictured), sister club of FC Hout Bay.
And this newcomer is ready to stamp its authority as it gears up for Safa Cape Town’s HollywoodBets Third Division Playoffs to be hosted in the coming weeks following their league success this season.
No Bones with Jones has been informed that Kim Davids, Thaabit Isaacs and Earl Schutt are spearheading this FC Cousins-project with the hope of bringing third division football back to the Hout Bay area, while Danny Plaatjies will assist the head coach Emile Arendse who is currently with Hout Bay United Football Community (HBUFC).
It is no secret that most clubs situated in this coastal area are living in the shadows of their more illustrious counterparts, HBUFC.
Needless to say the demise of FC Cousins’ neighbour, FC Hout Bay, was very sad – but to a large extent self-inflicted due to the in-house politics and the behind-the-scenes drama amongst administrators which eventually affected the team’s progress on the pitch.
I mean, they had three of the best coaches like Goodwin Lewis, Bradley August and Peter Kirsten in the previous four seasons, and yet they still got relegated somehow.
Danny emphasized that valuable and costly lessons were learnt in the past and that they are better prepared this time round to avoid their mistakes of the past.
“It’s the birth of something new and we’ve had amazing success so far (winning the league),” Plaatjies told No Bones with Jones. “The guys are all pumped and looking forward to what lies ahead. I think we are going to do well (in the playoffs). They are all eager, it is something they have never done before and this is an opportunity for them to do and grab it with both hands,” Plaatjies added.
Plaatjies was also very philosophical on his outlook for the playoffs which is set to start in a couple of weeks’ time.
“We have talented players across the field along with some wisely selected Vodacom and Castle players, so experience is in abundance. With that said we don’t want to talk the game, we want to go out there and play the beautiful game – remember this name FC Cousins and winners never quit and quitters never win,” Plaatjies concluded.
