Recurring knee injury brings Beukes’ debut season with Rangers to an abrupt end

FN Rangers defender Rabian Beukes (pictured) has made a bold call on his career and decided to call it quits for this season’s ABC Motsepe League Second Division campaign.

The lanky 24-year-old defender confirmed that he will not return in the new year to resume the first round with Rangers but rather sit out to focus on his recurring knee injury that has hampered his debut season at the defending Second Division champion.

Beukes, a product of Silver Spurs and where he cut his teeth, made the move from Santos FC to Rangers this season where he has only featured for 60 to 70 minutes for his new club – and that was in the Nedbank Cup just before the season kicked off.

Beukes, who suffered his first knee just upon joining Rangers, explained to No Bones with Jones: “I hurt my knee again for the second time so now I’ll probably be out for the rest of the season and return in the new season. It is not ideal but it is what it is,” Beukes added.

According to Beukes his main priority is to focus on his injury and try to recover as quickly as possible.

“I will make a decision on my career when I have recovered completely and that will only be next season,” Beukes concluded.
