Roger attempting to strengthen Santos’ Fortune with experienced duo

Only time will tell if Diadora’s Siyabonga Madikane (pictured) and Jerry Mxabo will put pen to paper at the ABC Motsepe League outfit Santos.

No Bones with Jones has established that the experienced duo has been linked with a move to the People’s Team after a very successful season with Diadora where they won a treble – League champions at their Athlone LFA, Safa Cape Town’s promotional playoffs to the Hollywoodbets Third Division, as well as the prestigious Coke Cup.

This prompted Santos’ coach Roger Fortune to reach out to these two players with the hope of luring them to their Thornton home ground as Fortune is fully aware of the value and experience they can add to his team.

“Look, you can only say for certain when they have signed and committed to us,” Fortune told No Bones with Jones. “I have learnt from past experiences that you cannot get too excited about players training with you, only to leave for other clubs. So, until they sign on the dotted line, then I’ll be satisfied. But let’s keep fingers crossed that they will commit to us,” the Santos mentor added.

Meanwhile, Fortune is preparing for a humdinger, an away clash against FN Rangers when the Second Division resumes next weekend (19 and 20 January).

Santos is currently setting the pace in stream A after three games with a full complement of nine points followed by Rangers who are also on nine points but have a minus-two goal deficit.

Needless to say, Santos is seeking redemption against coach Arreshaat Daniels’ Rangers after the latter bundled them out of the Nedbank Cup during a first-round clash late last year.

It will be interesting to see when Santos returns to the Royal Road Sport Field in Maitland on 20 January if they will be bolstered by the services of the two former pros in Madikane (35) and Mxabo (30).
