Crystal Palace FC striker Roy-Keane Avontuur (pictured) is cut a frustrated figure after his expected move to rivals Vasco da Gama, has been blocked.
No Bones with Jones was shown the whatsapp message whereby Palace confirms the news that Avontuur is not moving to Vasco or anywhere else.
This despite Avontuur’s father also trying to resolve the issue but has now clearly given up as Palace won’t budge. Worst of all, the transfer window closes today and it’s probably a lost cause for Avontuur.
So, the big question is if Avontuur, wo had high hopes upon joining the second division newbie, will sit out the remainder of the three months or will he report back for duty? If he do decide to go back, just imagine how uncomfortable that would be?
The former Stellenbosch FC professional player joined Palace at the beginning of the season with the hope to resurrect his career in the lower leagues, but probably did not expect this kind of drama.
However, things didn’t go as planned for the 21-year-old attacker as he got very limited game time. This prompted Avontuur to seek greener pastures at Parow Park where he trained for two weeks.
According to a high-placed source Avontuur is desperate to join Vasco. “I must state that I am very disappointed in how coaches can hold back young players, but there’s nothing that can be done about it,” the source added.
Meanwhile our website reached out to Avontuur’s agent Ashley Rasool without any luck.
So, too, did Palace’s coach Bradley August not respond to any queries forwarded to him.
