Saxons go into “focus-mode” as provincial playoffs looms in Gansbaai

“If we can’t get past the group, then we are not good enough to be in the Motsepe League at this point.”

This is the reaction of Saxon Rovers’ head coach, Robert Pretorius (pictured left), following the draw for the provincial playoffs for the ABC Motsepe League in Gansbaai on July 4th and 5th.

It’s also worth mentioning that a video (below) is circulating on social which shows a reel where the draw was conducted and judging by the comments related, it’s questionable,

Meanwhile, Saxons, Safa Cape Town’s Third Division champion, has been drawn in Group B with the Overberg host, Mighty Stars and FC Kayamandi (Cape Winelands), while Group A consists of Stars FC (Central Karoo), Harambee FC (West Coast) and Moonlight (Eden).

“Firstly, it’s a tough draw, and I wasn’t even aware of it,” Pretorius stated to No Bones with Jones“You play the hand that you’ve been dealt, you know. Look, like I said, if we can’t get out of this group, then we don’t deserve to play in the Motsepe League, it’s as simple as that.”

Saxons operated impressively like a runaway train this season and clinched their maiden Third Division league title in fine style for the 2025/’26 season. Huge credit should go their technical staff who operates like a well-oiled machine as

According to Pretorius, who has had prior success with Vasco da Gama at a playoff campaign, reckons all their efforts over the previous 10 months will count for nothing if they cannot get over this final hurdle.

Pretorious pointed out that the next two weeks will be crucial in their quest for promotion.

“We will have to intensify our efforts and go into focus-mode as nothing else should matter now,” Pretorius pointed out.
“We also need to be at a higher level as there is a lot at stake,” Pretorius concluded.
