In an unexpected and dramatic twist of events, Greenwood Athletic has released the “son of the soil” Warren Lotters and replaced him with a former coach in Lionel Miller.
Needless to say, no one saw this coming even though Greenwood is flirting with danger of relegation thus far in the Hollywoodbets Third Division campaign.
Greenwood’s 2-2 draw against the last-placed Ocean View FC on Saturday was probably what contributed to Lotters’ downfall as it signalled to the Greenwood hierarchy that he unfortunately does not have what it takes to take the Retreat-based club to newer heights.
Lotters could only manage one victory from his 11 games which include five draws and five losses with a minus-six goal difference.
The fact that Lotters came in on the 11th hour during the preseason after Brent Raven decided to part ways with Greenwood also did him no favours.
Meanwhile, Miller, better known as ‘Pony’ will be under no illusion that he’ll have his work cut out for him to get his former club back on track in the Third Division. No Bones with Jones understands that Miller has already started preparing for his daunting challenge as he was spotted at Camps Bay FC’s fixture against Jomos Power on Saturday as they face the former next week in Camps Bay.
Miller, whose official announcement will be made in the coming days, is set to become Greenwood’s third coach of the 2023/24 campaign following the departures of Raven and Lotters.
