The 2023 edition of the Spar Mookrey Group’s Rygate Cubs Festival has claimed and owned its position as the new flagship event on this LFA’s football calendar.
This is largely because this soccer festival has grown exponentially over the last decade forcing the organisers to shift their grading from a minimum to a medium risk event because it will exceed the 5000-mark for patrons.
The 12th edition “Cubs’ as it was known in the past, kicks off from October 3rd to October 7th at the Johnson Road Sport Complex and coincides with the school holidays.
The festival includes approximately 2300 participants and more than 6000 spectators that is expected to come through the gates during the five days of the school holidays.
Rygate LFA’s president, Abdul Tajoodien, has been working tirelessly around the clock to ensure that all the bases are covered pertaining the sponsorship and the green light for the event.
“Our final meeting with the City (of Cape Town) will be on September 6th and that will be for the finalisation of the permit,” Tajoodien confirmed.
Tajoodien highlighted that they have also partnered with the mobile network operator MTN that will provide free Wi-Fi on the premises.
“This is our way of showing that we have to move with the times, you know,” he said.
“It is important that we as the organisers look at ways and means to constantly improve and better the festival – not only for the participants, but the spectators as well.
“I need to stress that registration takes place on September 4th, and I appeal to all clubs and their representatives to have their ducks in a row,” Tajoodien concluded.
