Spurs flip the script with ‘Out with the new and in with the old’ in an attempt to resurrect season

When a reshuffle or a clean out gets implemented, it’s usually a case of in with the new and out with the old.

However, Silver Spurs have flipped the script and taken a different approach of ‘out with the new and in with the old’ after they booted no more than seven players, brought in by their previous coach, Goodwin Lewis, in an attempt to rebuild and restore their squad for the 2025/’26 season.

These latest developments were confirmed by Silver Spurs’ new coaching staff under the leadership of Victor Tajoodien (pictured), his brother Cheslyn, and Kevin Lewis.

“Yes, all our old players were brought in again,” Tajoodien explained to No Bones with Jones. “We have also added a few laaities of the club, 17 and 18-year-olds and the reasoning is that we would love to break into the Bayhill tournament, which would be good for the club,” Tajoodien added.

Old guards like Tyrese Adams, Obeyd Tajoodien, Cheslyn Visagie, Zubair Beukes, Jaydin Adams, Taariq Ryklief and the veteran striker Nizaam ‘Tommy’ Miller are all part of the rebuilding process at Spurs.

Needless to say, this transformation seemed to have yielded a positive effect after Spurs won their first game 2-1 against Wanderers FC earlier in the week following Goodwin Lewis’ departure.

One can only hope that it’s not just the proverbial ‘beginner’s luck’  start for Tajoodien and his coaching staff.

Only time will tell if Spurs, the longest serving team in the Third Division, has made the correct decisions, as they too have blown hot and cold over the previous two decades competing in this league.

Spurs will draw comfort from the fact that they finished in the runners-up position two seasons ago under the guidance of Cheslyn, who is back in the fold.

Spurs travel to the Youngsfield Military base to face the impressive Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town (15:00) on Saturday.
