It was indeed a Friday night goal fest in Safa Cape Town’s Third Division campaign with a total of 20 goals scored in four matches – averaging five goals per game.
It was also business as usual for the new log leader, Premier United following a convincing 3-0 away win against the struggling Wanderers FC at the Voorbrug Sport Field to extend their unbeaten run to five matches.
A brace from Micheal Peterson and another from Shiraj Ederies ensured that Premier, along with Saxon Rovers who travel to Trinitarians on Saturday, are the only two unbeaten sides in the league thus far.
Anthony’s side has also shown they are potent on attack with 13 goals in five matches and only conceded three which is an early indication they mean business this season.
So, too, did the newbie Rygersdal FC, with its exciting young guns, maintain the pressure on the pacesetters after they secured a full complement of points with a comfortable 3-1 victory.
Fernal Abrahams was the star of the show with a double – one in each half while Lisanda Nakile also kept the scoreboard ticking. Abrahams’ first goal, a long-range effort from the halfway line left fans in awe – he followed this up with a fantastic freekick in the second half to ensure a third victory on the trot for the home side.
Meanwhile, another debutant in Ashford Athletic are back to winning ways after a hard fought 4-3 win over JL Zwane at The Bridge on Friday evening.
Two goals from the veteran striker Danian Wareley and a goal each from Ryan Adams and Granville Isaacs handed the home side maximum points after a 2-2 draw against Matroosfontein FC and a 0-1 loss to Saxon Rovers in their previous two matches.
Meanwhile, Roger Fortune’s Young Pirates also cashed in on home ground advantage to beat Jomos Power 4-2 in Heideveld to stay in the hunting pack in the fifth position.
