Goodwin Lewis is one of those coaches who never ceases to amaze.
Lewis, better known as “Oenie” has vacated his advisory post at the Second Division club Inter City to replace Lionel Miller at Greenwood Athletic for the 2026’27 Third Division season of Safa Cape Town.
This appointment was confirmed by Greenwood’s chairman Noel Isaacs.
“The year Junction (Rovers) won the league he (Lewis) was our technical advisor, and we just stayed friends with him and were all lekka,” Isaacs stated to No Bones with Jones. “So, he is not completely new to the club.”
Isaacs also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Lewis’ predecessor who had been a loyal servant to the club over the years.
Miller, who came close on several occasions to conquer the league but fell short, has struggled to keep up with the pacesetters this season.
“First of all, there’s no hard feelings from him and he understands,” Isaacs further explained. “Look, Lionel has been with us for six or seven seasons and he understands.
“You know, I’ll always give Lionel his credit that he has served us well and he kept us competitive and so on. We won two Nedbank Cup titles with him but we thought we needed a change and maybe Mr Lewis can just bring that new energy, new impetus to take us over the line.
“Look, by our own admission we were not competitive enough last season. So, we thought we needed a change…
“And because Oenie has a focus on youth players and youth development, he is not just coming here to coach the team, but also to advise and assist with coaching in our big youth set up. He’s got a lot to offer and he is also a good guy,” Isaacs concluded.
No Bones with Jones can also confirm that Damian Bassedien will be returning to the club after eight years. Needless to say. he will be bringing his wealth of experience and proven ability which bodes well for Lewis who will be assisted by Kurt Poole and Darian Nefdt.
