Williams Under Pressure to Account for SAFA CT Finances

If SAFA Cape Town Treasurer Sadick Williams knows what is good for him, he will ensure he attends the region’s next Mancom meeting and provide a comprehensive account of the organisation’s financial affairs.

After all, SAFA Cape Town is a public football body entrusted with managing members’ funds, and its affiliates have every right to know the state of its finances.

No Bones with Jones understands that frustration is mounting within sections of the regional leadership over the continued delays in receiving detailed financial reports. Concerns have reportedly been raised about the lack of regular financial engagements, with only one meeting having been held to discuss the region’s finances.

According to sources, that presentation focused mainly on income and expenditure, while more detailed financial documentation, including balance sheets, was not tabled. The situation has been further complicated by a string of postponed finance-related meetings.

Meetings initially scheduled for 22 September, 30 September and 7 October failed to materialise, much to the frustration of members who have been left waiting for answers. The situation has inevitably drawn comparisons with former bookkeeper Les Mondo, who was widely regarded as meticulous and consistent in providing financial updates and statements to LFAs.

With limited financial information currently reaching the members, questions about the region’s financial position continue to persist. There’s even a narrative that the region is now “worse off than before.”

But what makes the situation even more noteworthy is that the regional leadership previously backed the removal of former treasurer Wayne Weitz before placing its confidence in Williams to oversee the portfolio. Williams himself was reportedly one of the most vocal figures during the process that culminated in Weitz’s departure, making his stewardship of the portfolio all the more significant.

Many believed his appointment would usher in greater financial stability and improved accountability. However, critics argue that those expectations have yet to be realised. Whether that perception is fair or not, the growing calls for transparency suggest that members are becoming increasingly impatient.

With patience wearing thin and questions continuing to mount, the upcoming Mancom meeting could prove pivotal. For Williams, it may well be an opportunity to restore confidence, provide clarity and finally put the growing speculation surrounding SAFA Cape Town’s finances to rest.
