Zizwe United will not close shop – even if they should sell off their Second Division status.
This is the reassurance of Zizwe’s manager, Mike Siheke.
The Gugulethu-based outfit has been on the market for a while now in search of potential buyers, but nothing has been forthcoming for weeks now.
Sources revealed that Zizwe is keen to sell off their ABC Motsepe status in order to buy a National First Division (NFD) franchise.
This is probably understandable as they have been to the playoffs on more than three occasions only to fall short at every attempt.
Needless to say that they have certainly spent some serious money in the previous seasons with the hope of winning promotion, but this never materialised.
In retrospect Zizwe cannot be crucified for wanting to take the proverbial shortcut to success – but this might come at a price which they seemed prepared to do.
Siheke communicated to our website recently that they had given a potential buyer 48 hours to conclude the deal, but to date nothing has been forthcoming.
‘Bra Mike’ as Siheke is better known, emphasized that they are definitely not desperate to sell their status, acknowledging the importance and role of their club for the Mother City.
“Yes, we are aware that Cape Town needs us,” Sikheke told our website. “That is why even if the franchise is bought, Zizwe is not closing shop, we are still busy talking to NFD clubs. If things go according to plan by next season Cape Town should have a team in the Motsepe Championship,” Siheke concluded.
