It is so unfortunate that the hijacking happened to an institution like Cape Town City FC, who are trying their level best to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
The experience that those players went through is traumatic and difficult to process. We certainly hope that they will recover fully and are given full support so that they are able to continue participating in the beautiful game.
This game of football is played in all communities and on the poorest side of Cape Town, where poverty is rife. Some of our players go through hardships and look to football as their escape from poverty.
Cape Town City FC provides that vehicle, and we hope that this isolated incident doesn’t damper their spirit of community involvement. We also hope that the culprits are brought to book.
Football shall continue to be played in all communities as we continue to spread the gospel that through football, you can become a good citizen.
