Safa Western Cape chairman Tankiso Modipa said he was rather “shocked” and “disappointed” at a recent post on social media indicating that the province is to expand the ABC Motsepe League with more streams for the 2024/’25 season, confirming that this information has not yet been ratified.
The post further alleges that the reason behind this is to help create more participation and opportunities for teams from rural areas.
Modipa created the impression that he was unimpressed with the post as nothing has been ratified yet.
“At the moment I don’t know who published that post as the PEC took the decision to check the possibilities,” Modipa told No Bones with Jones. “I am also now shocked to see the post before it even reaches its destination for further handling,” he added.
The province currently consists of 18 teams split into two streams of nine teams each. This format was voted for by the majority of the clubs following an engagement with the province and the chairmen of the participating clubs prior to the start of the current season.
According to the WC soccer boss he cannot comment any further at the moment. “I need to get to the bottom of who did this before it was sent to the relevant structure. But yeah, I am totally disappointed,” Modipa concluded.
