Bitter pill for Crowie to swallow as Zizwe crushes Maties’ title hopes

Zizwe United scored four first-half goals, including a hattrick in 30 minutes by Sandile Nomnjila which ended the hopes of Maties FC’s title challenge in Stream B of the ABC Motsepe League’s Second Division.

And the first to acknowledge this was their coach Desmond Crowie following their shock defeat by this big margin against a spirited Zizwe United.

This is the second consecutive loss for Crowie’s outfit after they were beaten 3-1 by log leaders Grassy Park United in their backyard last weekend.

Crowie confirmed that they are now “one thousand percent” out of the title race but added it was a “fantastic journey” for the players.

“It was a great learning curve for the players as most of them have never been in a pressure situation like this season,” Crowie told No Bones with Jones. “They can only grow from it.”

That said, the former Santos pro player highlighted their disappointment when he said it was a “bitter pill to swallow after coming so close to the business end of the season.

“But let’s take the positives from the journey with our Nedbank Cup success this season,” he further added. “So it was not all doom and gloom, you know.”
