Wayne’s World could crumble as Safa puts weights around his neck

Safa Cape Town’s beleaguered Treasurer Wayne Weitz (pictured) should have seen it coming.

And as cruel and sad as the reality reflects, this could well spell the beginning of the end for the Metropolitan LFA president.

I mean, especially after a vote of no confidence surfaced for Weitz – also an executive member for Sea Points Swifts – during a previous meeting by the Mother body, and now the suspension…

No Bones with Jones reported back in April already that Weitz’s Safa CT colleagues have been calling for his head and eager to unseat him from his lofty position – and now the chickens are coming home to roost.

This comes after the region released a statement late Friday night to confirm that Weitz is placed under “precautionary suspension.

The statement reads: ” The SAFA Cape Town Regional Executive Committee, after a thorough preliminary review conducted on June 27, 2024, has resolved to place the organization’s Treasurer, Mr. Wayne Weitz, on precautionary suspension. This decision is pending a comprehensive investigation into several alleged governance irregularities identified within the regional operations.

“A Committee led by the Chair of the Finance Committee, Ms Siviwe Tyali, investigated the alleged breaches and reported back to the Regional Executive Committee for consideration and decision making on the 27th June 2024.

“At this point, the investigation is primarily focused on assessing the adherence to financial protocols and the accuracy of reported financial activities.

“In the interest of preserving the integrity of the ongoing investigation and to facilitate Mr. Weitz’s full cooperation without potential conflicts of interest, he will be temporarily relieved of his financial responsibilities within the organization.

“During this period, which is expected to last until the bi-annual General Council Congress in August, an interim financial oversight committee comprising the Finance Committee and Management Committee will assume these duties, under the vigilant supervision of SAFA Cape Town President, Mr. Bennett Bailey.

“SAFA Cape Town is committed to transparency, accountability and upholds the principle of ‘innocent until proven guilty.’ We urge the public and our stakeholders to allow the due process to take its course and to respect the privacy and rights of all involved. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” the statement concluded.
