Safa Western Cape chairman Tankiso Modipa has reiterated that come hell or high water, the playoffs are going ahead.
The province has made it clear in the past that they will not be held ransom by clubs. This comes after the ongoing dispute between the two teams from Central Karoo – Barcelona FC and Ubuntu Spartans FC – threatens to derail and disrupt the Playoffs to be held at the Kwa-Nokuthula Stadium in Plettenberg Bay on Saturday and Sunday.
No Bones with Jones was informed that a cut-off date, 19 July, was set for the dispute to be resolved, but Modipa stated that he has no knowledge thereof.
Modipa said all they know is that the matter is in the hands of the appeal committee.
“We don’t interfere with the processes, we do our part as football leaders and allow the processes to flow and that’s it,” Modipa told No Bones with Jones. “But one thing for sure, whatever happens with those processes, we continue with the playoffs, point!” he added.
”We are certain that we are not postponing it, we are playing – that’s all,” Modipa concluded.
Meanwhile, the managers from both these clubs have already indicated they are not backing down and fighting this all the way as both parties strongly feel that they have a leg to stand on.
And, with the draw concluded on Sunday, it paints a picture that the Overberg and Cape Winelands could benefit from this as they will then play a game less but only if no resolution is found in the Central Karoo.
