Bra Mike was ‘The Link’ – he will be sorely missed! 

Imagine this… for the previous three weeks I’ve been leaving messages and calling the phone of “Bra” Mike Siheke not knowing that he was on his way to his final abode.

I couldn’t understand the blue ticks and silence as it was so unlike Bra Mike not to return one’s call or messages. And when the news broke on Sunday of his passing, it hit one like a ton of bricks – and it also made sense as to why Bra Mike did not reply. 

One still trying to digest and fathom to that the legend of Zizwe United is no more. Needless to say, Zizwe and the broader football community of Nyanga and its surroundings, will never be the same again as his absence will surely leave an indelible mark.

You see, Bra Mike was more than just an administrator, coach/manager/scout – he was THE LINK! As I have discovered during our encounters. He was my go-to guy should I require contact details from players or teams based in the townships. Bra Mike was always willing to assist and to link me up with the relevant people. 

Alas! My interactions and conversations were not always rosy and cosy with Bra Mike as he was a stubborn and forthright individual – but we always ‘parted’ in an amicable and civil manner as to agree to disagree as they say.

Bra Mike’s passing is once again a reminder of how short life really is. I am sure Bra Mike had plans for Zizwe to come with a bigger onslaught this season – but that is not to be. I think one way of trying to keep his legacy alive is to become that link albeit in whatever sphere of life.

Our website has been informed that officials from Zizwe are meeting with the deceased’s family on the way forward on Tuesday.
