Goal50 United coach Daryn Crowie refused to take credit for their fiery start and unbeaten run in Safa Cape Town’s Third Division campaign following the Festive break.
The Heideveld-based side, who live in the shadow of their newly promoted rivals, Young Pirates, who are currently second on the log with 24 points from 11 matches, have languished in the bottom half of the table since the league started in November last year.
They have now catapulted themselves out of the relegation zone into the top eight, with four wins from their first four matches of 2026, 15 points from 11 matches (five wins, six losses), and have caught the attention of many.
This is obviously all down to the coaching ability and cool heads of Crowie and his right-hand man and assistant, Rashiek Voterson, and their technical teams, who seemed to have found the winning formula.
Crowie, however, insists that the players deserve all the credit and praise.
“Honestly, we didn’t really allow them to switch off (during the Festive break), Crowie explained to No Bones with Jones. “We did a few sessions off the field, so I think that break allowed us to reflect and refocus and tweak a few things,” he added.
“The belief and morale are high within the squad. What’s been great to see as a coach is the character shown by the team that even when results haven’t gone our way…the fight to claw back has always been there. Even now, we went 1 goal behind against Premier, Wanderers and Silver Spurs, but came back in each of those games.
Crowie is well aware not to get ahead of themselves as they haven’t achieved anything yet. Needless to say, there’s no time to dwell on matters in this league as the games come thick and fast, and there’s still a long road ahead.
Crowie is now preparing his team for three games within a space of seven days. The first encounter, an extremely difficult one against Greenwood Athletic (13:00) at the ‘Harry Gwala’ in Heideveld on Saturday afternoon, followed by two away matches against Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town and Cape Town Spurs.
Crowie has kept a brave face through adversity after six losses from their first seven matches of the new campaign. His patience, fortitude, and professionalism have also helped to shape and inculcate a winning mentality in his squad.
Now, the players have rewarded him with some stellar performances against top opposition and are slowly but surely becoming renowned for humbling top sides in the league. They are starting to execute what Crowie demands from them,
It’s obvious Crowie is eager to extend their winning streak of four consecutive matches when he pointed out: “Let’s hope the good run continues.”
“Look, let’s be realistic here. I’m sure there will be roadblocks ahead, but the team is focused on pushing forward. Our main goal is obviously to retain our status,” Crowie concluded.
