One is tempted to say the chickens are coming home to roost – but then again, let’s not count the chickens before they have hatched.
What is well and truly certain is that those who were once allies are now becoming adversaries.
This deduction comes after half of the six Safa Cape Town electoral members – Gerald Don (National Executive Member), Advocate L. Kwababana, Advocate Anzel Laubscher, Shafiek Davids (pictured), Zolani Malibeni and Koketso Sekokotla – have jumped ship recently. The million-dollar question now is: Why?
Of the six, Don and Laubscher requested early on to be recused. If that was not embarrassing, Davids became the latest member to leave after he resigned over the weekend.
This unexpected and questionable behaviour also played out during the Wayne Weitz’s saga when one of the region’s legal eagles Monray Polman from the Northern Suburbs LFA, also asked to be recused.
No Bones with Jones has also gathered that Malibeni and Sekokotla are expected to follow suit as the duo are not happy with proceedings and risking their reputations are making them very uncomfortable – this also suggests these members no longer have the trust and confidence in the current Safa CT leadership under Bennett Bailey.
So, it’s understandable that questions will pop up as to what has made Laubscher, Don and Davids so uncomfortable that they have to snub the Mother body?
Now, an Arbitrator, Adv. Sthembiso Mdladla, has been assigned by the South African Football Association’s CEO, Lydia Monyepao, to preside in this matter between the region and the Langa-Ndabeni LFA on Wednesday (18 February) – and the way things are unfolding, the expectation is that the Arbitrator will rule the nominations null-and -void – and have it redone in the near future.
Interesting times lie ahead for football at Safa Cape Town which also begs the question: “Is Bailey’s grip starting to slip?
