Hout Bay United hierarchy shows no mercy to ‘outsiders’ – axes head coach Loftman, supporting staff and players

HoutBay United FC (HBUFC) Chairman and Trustee, Jeremy Elson has got the tongues wagging when he initiated a major shake-up at the club due to failed targets and objectives.

Elson has given his highly esteemed and qualified head coach in Michael Loftman (pictured), along with the other heads of department like Michael Carstens (goalkeeper coach), Roscoe Pietersen (head of juniors) and Nathan Paulse (academy manager) their marching orders following a 30-day notice period after yet another unsuccessful season in the ABC Motsepe League.

Most of the squad’s players, which predominantly consists of talent from outside, have also been given their marching orders. It’s also no secret that HBUFC have one of the biggest budgets in the league and for them not to deliver positive results, is inexcusable.

No Bones with Jones has reached out to Elson on the way forward however, he did not reply by the time of posting the article.

Now, Loftman arrived with great expectation and pedigree with his UEFA A Licence in Hout Bay from Mamelodi Sundowns two seasons ago with the hope to get the coastal side to the promised land of the National First Division.

But this never materialised hence hard decisions were taken by the club’s hierarchy. This just once again emphasizes that even with a big budget and highly qualified coaches, nothing is guaranteed. It’s usually a case of not how much is spent, but rather how – and Hout Bay United has once again fallen short.

No Bones with Jones believes there’s an appetite to revert “back to basics” going forward with the intent of recruiting local talent from the Hangberg area and its surrounds, but how eager and open local players would be to return to a club which has already created a perception that they are not good enough with the influx of high profile players and personal (from outside) in recent seasons?
