RKDG sells Second Division status to Saxons – De Gouveia to “take brake” from football but vowed to come back “bigger and stronger”

RKDG’s Chairman, Paul De Gouveia (pictured), has sent shockwaves through the football fraternity when he revealed that he sold his status to “take a break” from football – but vowed to be back “bigger and stronger” in the near future.

De Gouveia’s comments came after he sold his ABC Motsepe League Second Division status to neighbours Saxon Rovers, who were desperate to play higher up after they fell short at the playoffs in Gansbaai two weeks ago.

Our website can also confirm that Saxons in turn, sold their Third Division status to D6 Academy with a balance paid as well.
According to De Gouveia, he is taking a sabbatical to regroup, adding that this is the proverbial calm before the storm.

“I need to take a break personally from football and then I’ll come back bigger and stronger,” De Gouveia revealed to No Bones with Jones. “Listen, I’m not finished as I did not achieve what I wanted to, you know. There are a lot of dreams from players that need to be realised and I want to be a part of that.  So, for me to go forward, they must go forward as well. And in this day and age, money and finances are the big things,” he added.

The collaboration between De Gouveia’s RKDG Development brand and that of Vasco da Gama has been a fruitful one since the former’s inception in 2020, where they won promotion from Safa CT’s Third Division League to the Motsepe League following the acquisition of Bellstar United’s status.

This is also why De Gouveia received numerous messages from players to thank him for his role and impact on their lives. Needless to say, this is definitely a platform to be built on in the future, and De Gouveia is too well aware of this, he vowed to make a comeback.

Meanwhile, Diadora FC’s chairman, Shaheed Abrahams, has squashed any rumours that he is selling their Motsepe League status.

“In fact, we are in the process of recruiting and strengthening for the new season as other coaches are contacting our players, making ridiculous offers,” Abrahams concluded.
