Rygersdal Ladies’ Rapid Rise Continues with Another Promotion, but Sasol League Deadlock Stalls Next Step

Rygersdal Ladies’ rapid rise within SAFA Cape Town and SAFA Western Cape football structures has been nothing short of remarkable.

Behind the club’s growth and success stands a dedicated technical team whose hard work, vision and commitment have transformed Rygersdal Ladies into one of the region’s most exciting emerging forces.

Women’s Regional League (WRL) head coach Ashraf Calvert and Women’s Regional Promotion League (WRPL) head coach Donwyn Hermans have spearheaded the club’s progress, supported by assistant coaches Grant Scholtz and Qasim Davids, along with analyst Rameez Behardien.

Together, the coaching staff have built a competitive, disciplined and ambitious outfit capable of challenging established teams. Their impact has been evident on the field, with Rygersdal’s achievements serving as proof of the tremendous work taking place behind the scenes.

According to Hermans, the club’s historic rise has been built on a collective effort both on and off the field, but their recent success has only fuelled the desire to aim even higher.

“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved at Rygersdal Ladies,” Hermans told No Bones with Jones. “We’ve worked hard to earn these promotions, and we’re not done yet. We’re ready for whatever lies ahead and will keep pushing forward. There’s still a lot more we want to achieve.”

Earlier this year, the club celebrated promotion from the WRL to the Provincial League. That success was recently matched when Rygersdal’s second team secured promotion from the WRPL to the WRL, further underlining the club’s impressive development structure and depth of talent.

However, despite earning their place among the province’s elite women’s teams, Rygersdal find themselves in a state of uncertainty due to messy situation and ongoing legal disputes between the clubs and the football custodians.
