The Cape District Football Association (CDFA) has sent out a strong message that conduct bringing the organisation into disrepute will not be tolerated.
The CDFA’s president Wayne Jones confirmed that the association’s Disciplinary Committee (DC) had concluded its hearing into the matter involving Salt River Blackpool player-coach Nabeel Gerum, with the outcome circulated to all affected parties and affiliated clubs.
“He is suspended from all football activities for three years, of which 12 months is suspended,” Jones told No Bones Jones.
The sanction means Gerum will be barred from all football-related activities and will only be eligible to resume participation as a player and coach from 10 January 2029, subject to the conditions attached to the suspended portion of the sentence.
Meanwhile, Gerum has been hit with a double whammy after his club also imposed its own disciplinary sanction and this news was confirmed by Salt River Blackpool president, Iqbal Kasker.
“Our DC has suspended the member for two years (24 months) from the date of the offence, of which 16 months is suspended. The player is eligible to resume club duties from 1 June 2027,” Kasker told No Bones Jones.
The disciplinary action stems from Gerum’s conduct during the Super League Knockout Final between Salt River Blackpool and Wolves a couple of weeks ago where he allegedly charged towards a match official, hurled profanities at officials and had to be restrained.
