Safa Western Cape Chairman Tankiso Modipa has confirmed that they are meeting with all the participating ABC Motsepe League clubs at the Golden Casino in Worcester on Sunday.
The lead-up to the new Motsepe League campaign – which is set to start in early October – has been marred by controversy and drama regarding the expansion of the league to make it more inclusive especially for the rural regions.
However, Modipa was quick to denounce this sentiment by adding that they are just gearing up for the new 2024/’25 campaign.
“It’s a standard pre-season agenda that we shared already with the clubs, my good sir,” Modipa said to No Bones with Jones.
The South African Football Association recently ratified Safa WC’s proposal to expand the Second Division from 18 to 24 teams to make it more inclusive, especially for the rural regions.
Needless to say, the lead-up to the new Motsepe League campaign – which is set to start in early October – has been marred by controversy and drama regarding the expansion of the league.
However, Modipa had in turn hit back saying they did everything by the book and had nothing to hide despite the dissatisfaction felt by some in the Overberg region.
Modipa also confirmed that as per the PEC’s resolution, four clubs – Diaz Leeds FC (West Coast), Salim United FC (Overberg), Infantry School FC (Eden) and Ammaar Academy FC (Cape Winelands) – will be playing with the big boys, along with the Hollywoodbets Third Division champion and runner-up, Mbekweni Cosmos and Vasco da Gama respectively.
The final spot to make up the 24 teams will derive from the mini-playoffs to take place at the Zwelethemba Stadium this coming weekend from 7 to 9 September.
The participating teams are West Coast (Langebaan FC), Ubuntu Spartan FC (Central Karoo), Blackpool (Overberg) and Bitou Pirates FC (Eden).
