Anwar confirms Hanover Park FC suspended Wilks for “ignoring instructions” as Brasse remain positive ahead of Ubuntu

The writing is on the wall for Hanover Park FC goalkeeper Shiraj Wilks (pictured).

Wilks, who substituted for the injured Kyle Peters, did himself very little favours as a rush of blood might have seen him play his last game for Hanover Park FC.

This follows after Hanover Park FC head coach Anwar Gallant revealed that Wilks is now suspended following his antics during a 3-3 draw against Vasco da Gama which cost his side three valuable points in the title (Stream A) race.

Hanover Park FC (45 points), who are currently four points off log leaders in stream A, Sea Point Swifts (Hope FC) with two games to play, was awarded a late penalty against Vasco on Tuesday evening to secure a 4-3 victory.

However, the 30-year-old Wilks, who according to Gallant, “Ignored instructions” when he ran to the opposition half to take the penalty and subsequently missed  – much to the frustration and irritation of the club’s owner, Rieduwaan Anthony, as Wilks made two blunders earlier in the match which not only allowed Vasco to gain the upperhand in the match, but ultimately it meant they dropped two valuable points.

Gallant explained the rationale behind his decision to No Bones with Jones. “The regular penalty taker I took off just before that therefore our number two and three kickers were on the ball discussing who would kick between the two of them.

“Then the goalkeeper ignored instructions and took the ball from them… He is now suspended for his actions and probably won’t play the next two matches . But by then, the season will end and he will be released,” Gallant added.

Die Brasse Vannie Park, as Hanover Park FC is known, will be looking to shrug off their woes when they host Ubuntu FC in a ABC Motsepe League clash at the Downberg Road on Friday (15 May) evening.

Gallant emphasized that they will remain positive and will give their all for their remaining (four) matches of the season.

“We just have to make sure we win our matches,” Gallant further pointed out. “As you know anything can happen in football and we have to remain positive,” Gallant concluded.
