Shortly after the curtain dropped on the very successful Bothasig Build-it Under13-soccer Festival at the Bosmansdam Primary School on Saturday, it was revealed that this school could play host to the event again next year.
The plans are also already in motion to expand the event with the introduction of the netball code.
“We would love to host the event again in the future as the idea is to expand the festival but this needs to be confirmed going forward,” Mark Sochen, store manager of Build-it Bothasig stated.
Needless to say, this possibility was music to the ears of the local supporters, and it sent the young girls who came out in support of the boys, in raptures as they too will be part of the spectacle next year.
Meanwhile, the Tygerhof Primary School took the Build it slogan of ”Yes, we can!’‘ to heart and backed it up with their own version of ”Yes, we did!” after they conquered the Bothasig-leg on Saturday.
The Milnerton-based school had to dig deep and first needed to wipe out a deficit of 0-1 to narrowly beat the hosts Bosmansdam by 2-1 in the final.
The victory was well deserved as they fought tooth and nail in windy conditions to overcome a spirited Bosmansdam outfit who tried their utmost to cash in on their home-ground advantage, but in the end, it was not enough.
It is fair to say that soccer was the overall winner however, the spectacle delivered some exciting talent in the player of the tournament for Tygerhof Primary in Alubone Gope who got the tongues wagging with his skills and trickery.
So, too did his teammate Kungawo Yola who produced stellar performances in goal. He was named the Goalkeeper of the tournament.
Both these players received a R500 voucher towards their school fees for next year. The winning school also received R2000 in prize money and a new kit sponsored by Build-it Bothasig.
“Remember this is a prominent development program that is used to unearth raw talent and It was good to see the kids enjoying themselves by showing their talent,” said Dali Fekenisi, Head of Youth (Safa Cape Town).
“The coaches’ eagerness to develop players was noticeably transferred to the kids on the field of play with a good display of football. Thank you to parents and the learners from Bosmansdam for their support in making the event a success.
“The partnership between Built It and Safa Cape Town has once again delivered a successful event,” Fekenisi concluded.
