When Hanover Park FC’s coach Sam Anthony (pictured right) was probed on what he has up his sleeve for their archrivals FN Rangers, he said two words: “Ameen Awaldien.”
These two foes square up in an ABC Motsepe League clash (15:00) at the Downberg Road Sport Field in Hanover Park on Saturday (25 November) afternoon.
Hanover Park, who are deemed as one of the favourites along with Rangers, currently set the pace in stream A with two wins from two matches but have played a game more than Rangers who enjoyed a bye in the opening round of the campaign.
Anthony is fully aware that maximum points could give Brasse Vannie Park, as Hanover Park is known, the upper hand in the so-called mini-sprint with the league format shortened with the two-stream split.
The challenge for Anthony and his assistant, Mark Faro (pictured left) is that Rangers have got the better of them in their previous three meetings – coach Arreshaat Daniels’ Rangers won both league encounters last season and recently knocked them out of the Nedbank Cup Cup.
Therefore, Anthony will be eager to tilt the pendulum back in their favour and would want cash in on home ground advantage to extend their lead at the top after Santos and Ikapa Sporting’s (both 6 points as well) clash on Friday at the Nyanga Stadium was postponed due to loadshedding.
“Rangers are definitely a formidable opponent with a lot of quality player’s, good technical team,” Anthony told No Bones with Jones.
“We, however, have prepared well and have some quality players as well that on any day can compete with the best. It should be a humdinger of a match at the back of our previous Nedbank encounter which Rangers won on penalties,” Anthony added.
Meanwhile it has come to light that the Awaldien and Darron Omaticus showdown will however not take place. Our website can confirm that Billy, as Omaticus is affectionately known, will be sitting this one out as he is tying the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Jennileigh.
