CDFA AGM declared null and void by Safa CT: chickens coming home to roost

The chickens are coming home to roost for the Cape District Football Association (CDFA).

This follows after Safa Cape Town released a statement recently to confirm that the election held by the CDFA late last year has been declared null and void.

Safa CT sent correspondence to clubs confirming that the Annual General Meeting held is in violation of the SAFA Cape Town directive dated 10 February 2023 and the SAFA Cape Town Electoral Code: Article 1b, Article 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 3e, 3f and 3g.

“At the Disciplinary Hearing held on 19 October 2023, Mr Wayne Jones (pictured) and Mr Ivan Williams were found guilty of various charges. Mr Wayne Jones admitted to constituting the illegally held annual general meeting.”

This position was echoed at the SAFA Cape Town vs Cape District Disciplinary Hearing held on 17 January 2024.

Any correspondence issued for any activity of Cape District not signed by Mr Grant Adams (The General Secretary on record), should be ignored as it is illegal.

“Cape District LFA has not complied with the sanction issued on 04 December 2023 in the Disciplinary matter between SAFA Cape Town vs Mr Wayne Jones and Mr Ivan Williams which states the following: SAFACT and CDFA will each contribute Fifty percent (50%) of the total cost incurred for the ACM on the 5 February 2023; SAFACT will pay Sixty percent (60%) and CDFA Forty percent (40%) of the Disciplinary Hearing cost. Payments are due on or before 31 December 2023,” the statement read.

Cape District via the office of Mr Wayne Jones submitted a letter on 28 December 2023, in which he advises that Cape District will not comply with the sanction issued.

“Cape District is therefore out of compliance and no correspondence will be entertained from Cape District to SAFA Cape Town,” the region further stated. “

SAFA Cape Town will send a delegation to meet with the Cape District executive to discuss the way forward. Until such time, the terms of the Cape District LFA suspension still stand, ” the statement concluded.

No Bones with Jones has been informed that some of CFDA’s concerned clubs are now frantically asking questions behind the scenes as to what the future holds for them.

There is also talk that the CDFA has intentions to go the rebel way but clubs aren’t keen.

The president of the Spenston Shuroot Abrahams says it’s deja-vu from 2007 when they threatened to disaffiliate from the CDFA due to their arrogant behaviour.

According to Abrahams, Spenston threatened to breakaway from the CDFA due to the fact that the union did not want to affiliate to the Greater Wynberg LFA and wanted to become a LFA on its own.

“It didn’t work then and it won’t work now,” Abrahams said. “It’s not beneficial and that’s the bottom line.”
